Azam FC joins the race for Khama Billiat

Tanzanian side Azam FC has joined the race for Scottland FC talisman Khama Billiat ahead of the end of his contract with the Mabvuku-outfit.

Billiat’s contract with Scottland FC expires on 31 December 2026 and is yet to renew it, according to reports.

Hardrock FC are said to be pushing to bring the 36-year-old to Kwekwe as they mount a serious title challenge, having already landed Highlanders sensation Mongameli Tshuma for 2027.

However, Azam FC have entered the fray, according to FARPost and are keen to lure Billiat for another stint beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

The Tanzanian side are targeting experience to help them challenge Young Africans and Simba SC in the second half of the Tanzanian season.

At this point, it is not clear if Billiat is open to playing outside Zimbabwe again after his last stint Kaizer Chiefs that ended in June 2023.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has been in top form for Scottland FC this year, with 11 goals and six assists under his belt. He leads the assists chart and sits as joint-third with Dynamos’ Frank Agyemang on the goalscoring charts.

In addition, Scottland FC will be keen on retaining their talisman as they defend the Castle Lager PSL title. They lead Hardrock by just one point with six games to go.

The decision now comes down to whether Billiat stays in Zimbabwe with Hardrock, or heads to Tanzania with Azam.

Azam FC has previously been a good destination for Zimbabweans, having been home to Tafadzwa Kutinyu, Never Tigere, Bruce Kangwa and Prince Dube.

Kutinyu has retired while Tigere, Kangwa and Dube are plying their trade in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at Simba Bhora, Caps United and Hardrock FC respectively.
