Tembo eyes breakout roles for Chirewa and Mongameli as Warriors brace for Unity Cup

Kaitano Tembo has given a major hint on his plans at the helm of the Warriors, revealing he intends to get the best out of Highlanders star Mongameli Tshuma and England-based Tawanda Chirewa.
Tembo feels Chirewa has not been fully utilized, having mainly played from the bench, while he reckons Tshuma could strengthen the Warriors’ foundation considering his age.
Chirewa has so far garnered 14 national team caps and three goals under his belt, but Tembo wants more from the Barnsley FC attacker.
On the other hand, Tshuma was introduced into the Warriors fold during the Mukuru 4 Nations tournament, which was played in Botswana.
He played in three matches and scored one goal. But his rise has been capped by explosive performances at Bosso.

WHAT TEMBO SAID ABOUT CHIREWA AND TSHUMA
Tembo is hoping to unleash the best out of Chirewa and Tshuma, whom he handpicked during his first interview in London. The Zimbabwe Warriors are competing in the 2026 Unity Cup, a four-nation tournament being held in London.
The event features Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Jamaica, and India, with all matches scheduled to take place at The Valley Stadium between May 26 and May 30.
“Our structure needs to be built on discipline, resilience, the right attitude, and a strong work ethic from the players. So far, I’ve seen a lot of positives,” Tembo said.
“This is also a good opportunity to integrate some of the younger players. Guys like Mongameli Tshuma and Tawanda Chirewa, who haven’t played much, will get a chance to get minutes in the two guaranteed games.
“At the same time, we still have senior players like Marvellous Nakamba, who’s always welcome back. Overall, I’m happy with the squad we have right now.
“The goal is to create a good balance in the team. More than anything, I want to see positive performances, but winning is key. We need to start on the right note and maintain good results from the outset.”
