Kaitano Tembo speaks brightly of Abubakar Moffat’s Warriors prospects

Warriors interim coach Kaitano Tembo says the inclusion of workhorse midfield enforcer, Abubakar Moffat in the squad was long overdue, as the Scottland star is one of ‘the best midfielders at the moment’.
Moffat, drafted into the squad to participate in the invitational 2026 Unity Cup in the UK, has established himself as a midfielder mainstay under Norman Mapeza, after earning a place among the 2025 Soccer Star of the Year finalists then as a MWOS FC player.
Despite always being impressive, a national team call-up remained elusive until Tembo took over the reins last month, albeit on an interim basis.
MOFFAT DESERVES A CHANCE SAYS KAITANO TEMBO
The former Warriors defender, who himself will be hoping to impress at the Unity Cup and possibly win the substantive head coach job, is confident Moffat will seamlessly fit into the Warriors’ puzzle.
“We are trying to create a bigger pool of players in terms of profiling them, so we can keep track of them,” Kaitano Tembo told Fanzone.
“If we have a database of about 60 to 70 players that we can profile and monitor, I think it will be much easier for us to select players based on that.
“That’s why even a player like Abubakar Moffat needs an opportunity. He’s one of the best midfielders at the moment, so he needs to be given a chance.
“I think you need to bring him in gradually, not just throw him in the deep end. This is where he gets a little bit of game time, and then we see what he’s capable of doing.”
Meanwhile, the locally-based Warriors are scheduled to leave for the United Kingdom today for the Unity Cup tournament in London, taking place from May 26-30.
The four-nation event, which also features Nigeria, Jamaica, and India, is expected to provide crucial preparation ahead of the AFCON qualifiers beginning in September.
