Sports science key to Mighty Warriors potential success, says Stella Gotal

Recently-appointed Mighty Warriors coach Stella Gotal believes introducing the Global Positioning System (GPS) is key in the potential success of the country’s senior women national team.

Gotta was appointed Mighty Warriors head coach last week, becoming the team’s first ever foreign coach.

The Croat,who holds the UEFA Pro coaching badge and has been tasked with reviving the Mighty Warriors, believes GPS vests which track players’ speed, distance covered and movement patterns, is the way to go.

WHAT GOTAL SAID

“One thing we can upgrade is to implement the GPS system because then we would be able to track the intensity the players had during the training sessions and even the matches,” Gotal said on this week’s Fanzone episode.

“Later on, we could follow up on what is maybe the maximum and know the limit. We would also monitor players specifically in terms of speed, endurance, flexibility and strength.

“When you develop a player in terms of fitness level, or the things I already mentioned, it would be earlier for them to be executed because that is the base you need as a player.

“So if you have a good level of let’s say fitness and technical skills, GPS would definitely help us,” she added.

Gotal, who will be assisted by Arthur Gorejena, will attend Munhumutapa Cup Round of 16 games for women this weekend, as she sets her sights on preparing for the Olympic Games qualifiers.
