‘It’s a tall order but we can do it’: Mangombe backs Triangle for second great escape

Genesis Mangombe is backing himself to pull off another great escape and save Triangle United from relegation, despite facing what looks like the toughest run-in in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Last season, he turned a corner ensuring the Sugar Boys’ survival and even led them to the Chibuku Super Cup final, where they lost 1-0 to Dynamos.

Mangombe returned to Chiredzi in Jult with the same mission but difficult situation. But this time the mountain is steeper. Triangle are bottom of the table on 18 points. With seven matches left, and they need 20 points to reach the 38-point mark that might ensure survival.

“To be honest, we need maximum points in all the remaining matches. That is the only way. We have to win every single game and then pray that other results go our way. It’s a tall order, but we can do it,”Mangombe said

The fixtures make grim reading. Triangle host Highlanders next, before travelling to Bulawayo Chiefs. They will then welcome Dynamos, before heading to MWOS FC, and then host Simba Bhora FC.

The last two games will be away to FC Platinum and defending champions Scottland FC. Despite the odds, Mangombe says he knows exactly what needs to be done and remains confident his side will survive the dreaded chop.

“I have been in this situation before with Triangle. I know what I am doing. The boys showed character when we beat TelOne 2-0 and that gives us belief. If we keep that fight, we will survive. I believe in this team,” he said.
