“Respect your coach,” Chivayo delivers warning to Scottland players

Scottland benefactor Wicknell Chivayo has issued a stern and unequivocal warning to players to respect head coach Norman Mapeza, declaring that any act of defiance towards the coach is a direct insult to the club’s entire leadership.

Chivayo’s remarks come after former Kaizer Chiefs star Knowledge Musona stormed straight down the tunnel following his substitution in Wednesday’s goalless draw with FC Platinum at Rufaro — an incident widely condemned as disrespectful.

Musona was withdrawn in the 53rd minute and bypassed the bench, heading straight to the dressing rooms instead. When he later re-emerged in a tracksuit, he appeared to deliberately walk behind the technical area to avoid Mapeza. After the match, Mapeza said he did not know what was going through the player’s mind.

Addressing the matter via telephone at the Scottland dinner on Thursday night ahead of Sunday’s CAF Champions League Preliminary Round first leg against Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs, Chivayo demanded total respect for the Mapeza-led technical team.

“We want total discipline among players. You must respect the coach. This is a massive team, a team being backed by billionaires. We will not accept that behaviour,” said Chivayo.

“If you, the players, don’t respect the coach, you are showing blatant disrespect to me the sponsor, and to the club president, Hon. Scott Sakupwanya.

“Nobody is bigger than the team, nobody is bigger than us. You must be humble and you must show the utmost respect to the coach.

“We are not going to tolerate this nonsense anymore — players throwing tantrums after being substituted and refusing to even acknowledge the coach. It ends now.

“The coach is your boss, so you will respect him. I’m not going to mention names, but my message is crystal clear to everyone,” a furious Chivayo added.
