OPINION: Dear Musona, knowledge is of no use unless you put it into practice

A few weeks ago, there was a video which circulated on social media, of Knowledge Musona yelling at Nelson Chadya.

It was during Scottland’s 2-1 victory over Simba Bhora at Wadzanayi Stadium.

Granted, football is a game of emotions, Musona is a senior player and always demands the very best from his younger teammates.

But the manner in which he was screaming at Chadya in that video, got some football fans talking.

Similarly, Musona, a few months ago, reportedly complained in the dressing room after being substituted during Scottland’s victory over TelOne.

The former Kaizer Chiefs talisman is said to have gone to the extent of openly questioning, in front of his teammates and members of the technical team, why he is always the first player to be taken off, ‘even when his brother Walter would not be having the best of games’.

Musona’s remarks are said to have taken Scottland players by surprise and with justifiable cause.

Yesterday, the former Warriors captain was withdrawn ten minutes into the second half, and his reaction has sparked debate.

He walked straight to the dressing room and despite returning a few minutes later, anyone with proper eyesight could see that there was tension between Musona and Scottland coach Norman Mapeza.

Mapeza, typically, did not even attempt to defend Musona and apply some kind of damage control to the situation.

Instead, the veteran coach was characteristically blunt and told curious journalists after the game, that he didn’t even know what Musona was thinking.

Granted, Musona is a special player whose talent can only be questioned by anyone who doesn’t know what talent is. His achievements are there for all to see.

Only Peter Ndlovu scored more goals than Musona in the gold and green Warriors strip.

In fact, Musona is the only Zimbabwean player to have scored at three editions of the AFCON finals, having netted for Zimbabwe at the 2017, 2021 and 2025 editions of the continental spectacle.

Despite that glittering career and well-documented history, Musona needs to make a few realizations.

The first thing the ‘Smilling Assassin’ should realize, that is if is he is still an assassin anyway, is that he is not the only quality forward player at Scottland.

His fellow Aces Youth Academy graduate Khama Billiat is there, so is his brother Walter.

By the way, Walter has won two of the last four Soccer Star of the Year awards in Zimbabwe, and the fact that he is not included in the Warriors squad these days, is like King Kandoro’s content, hilarious.

As lethal as Tymon Machope was in the last two seasons, the gangly striker has fallen down the pecking order at Scottland, which underlines the depth the Mabvuku-based outfit has, upfront.

Terrence Dzvukamanja, for all his abilities in front of goal, has been loaned to FC Hunters, so has one of the brightest prospects in Zimbabwean football – Tadiwa Chakuchichi.

So for Musona to assume that he is the only or best option Mapeza has offensively, to the point of reacting like that to being substituted, is simply exaggerated self importance on the part of the former Kaizer Chiefs star.

The second thing that Musona needs to realize, is that he is not the captain of Scottland. His brother Walter is.

Many at times Musona has been pictured arguing with with referees using the kind of tone and body language naturally reserved for the captain of a team.

The fact that he has never been cautioned for that, is simply a miracle.

Knowledge, please tone it down.
