PSERSL Week 17 Review: Tenax cling on as top four tightens with two to go before halfway.

Week 17 of the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League, played over the weekend delivered a tight title race, a congested mid-table, and more drama at the bottom with just two matches left before the halfway mark.
Tenax CS FC kept their noses in front with a 1-0 away win over Buffaloes FC, a result that keeps them top on 35 points. Deportivo La Murambinda FC could not capitalise after going top midweek, held 0-0 by Bikita Minerals FC at Lithium Stadium.
Chivhu FC produced the weekend’s standout result, a clinical 3-0 home win over Four Lions FC at Garwe Stadium to register a third win of the season. Yadah FC edged Bikita Chida Athletic Club 1-0, while Grand Legacy FC beat Renco Mine FC 2-0. Destiny Stars FC and Masvingo United FC played out a 2-2 draw.
Defences ruled on Sunday with three 0-0 stalemates: Power FC vs FC Wangu Mazodze, Great Zimbabwe University FC vs Manica Diamonds U19 FC, and Mutare City Rovers FC vs Africa Mineral Ventures FC. Green Fuel FC were on bye.
The top of the log is now as tight as it gets. Tenax CS FC lead on 35 points from 17 matches, with a +12 goal difference.
Deportivo La Murambinda FC sit second on 34 points after their draw, but former log leaders Yadah FC are right there on 34 too at 16 played. Grand Legacy FC are fourth on 32 from 16, with Africa Mineral Ventures FC also on 32. That means only three points separate first from fifth, and just one point between second and fourth.
With two games left before the halfway point, every dropped point matters. La Murambinda’s missed chance against Bikita Minerals could prove costly, while Yadah’s 1-0 win keeps them firmly in the hunt. Grand Legacy’s 2-0 win and AMV’s point on the road mean the chasing pack are not going away.
It’s crowded from sixth down to 12th. Green Fuel FC are sixth on 31 from 16, with Bikita Minerals seventh on 24. Masvingo United and Renco Mine are both on 23 in eighth and ninth. Mutare City Rovers have 21 in 10th, Destiny Stars 19 in 11th, and Buffaloes 16 in 12th.
That six-point gap between 7th and 12th tells the story. A win or two swings a side from lower mid-table into the top half. GZU on 14 and Manica Diamonds U19 on 13 are just outside, but still in touching distance with a strong run.
At the bottom, Chivhu’s 3-0 win has changed the picture. The result takes Chivhu to 11 points in 17th, leapfrogging Four Lions who stay 19th on 8 points. Power FC remain 18th on 9 points after their 0-0 with Wangu Mazodze, who are 13th on 15.
Bikita Chida are 16th on 11 points, level with Chivhu but ahead on goal difference. With Power and Four Lions still to find a win, and Chivhu now with momentum, the fight to get out of the drop zone is alive with 17 matches gone.
Two more matches before the league pauses at the halfway mark, and the PSERSL is perfectly poised. Tenax hold a slender lead, but La Murambinda, Yadah and Grand Legacy are within a result of top spot. In mid-table, a handful of teams are one good weekend from pushing higher. And at the bottom, Chivhu have given themselves hope while Power and Four Lions must respond quickly.
