Arubi returns home as CAPS seek to solve goalkeeping crisis

CAPS United have completed the signing of veteran Zimbabwe Warriors goalkeeper Washington Arubi on a two-year contract, it has emerged.
The 40-year-old joins the Green Machine after leaving South African side Marumo Gallants and is expected in Harare tomorrow to complete his return to the Zimbabwean domestic league, 15 years after winning the 2011 Soccer Star of the Year with Dynamos.
Arubi’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Makepekepe, who have been grappling with a goalkeeping crisis.
First-choice goalkeeper Wallace Magalane was reportedly sacked yesterday following a costly error that gifted Triangle their second goal in the 2-2 stalemate.
While CAPS have not publicly confirmed that Magalane has been shown the exit door, sources at the club told Fanzone that the former FC Platinum goalkeeper was told to stop reporting for duty, while his salary will be paid in full until he finds another club.
The Harare giants are expected to unveil several new signings this week ahead of the mid-season transfer window, which officially opens on Wednesday.
Among the anticipated arrivals are Malawian midfielder Uchizi Vunga and Congolese striker Chris Mugalu, both of whom could be included in the squad set to travel to Kwekwe for a crucial league clash against second-placed Hardrock this weekend.
Arubi’s wealth of experience, leadership, and proven quality could provide the stability CAPS United need as they look to revive their title challenge in the second half of the season.
After a promising start to the 2026 season, CAPS have won only one of their last nine league matches.
