Coming into this rescheduled Week 13 fixture, Deportivo were 4th on 30 points, one point behind joint 2nd placed Green Fuel who were tied on 31 points with Yadah FC. Tenax CS FC led the standings on 32 points.
Nothing really separated the two teams in the first period as the break came with the sides deadlocked 0-0.
The second period saw both teams attack, but La Murambinda were disciplined at the back and did not allow the visitors any space inside the final third.
The turning point came in the 79th minute when Adu was brought down on the right flank.
Mudowaya stepped up and flighted in the delivery that Musoni directed home to give La Murambinda the lead.
The visitors tried to get back into the contest and Ayanda Ncube’s 84th minute screamer was dealt with decisively by the Deportivo goalkeeper.
La Murambinda remained disciplined as they shut out Green Fuel in the dying stages to hand them their first defeat and move to the top of the standings.
With news filtering in from Heart Stadium where Yadah FC were beaten by Africa Mineral Ventures FC 1-0, it meant the La Murambinda side shot to the top, overtaking Tenax CS FC who remain on 32 points.
AMV for their gallant win take their points tally to 31 points and are back within the championship matrix.
After the match, Deportivo head coach Lovemore Dzoro was satisfied with the victory.
Lovemore Dzoro: “I am very satisfied with the result because when we are playing at home we always target a win. I would like to give a big congratulations to the boys for a great performance today. They played according to our plan and we managed to get the three points.”
His opposite number Arnold Jani was gracious in defeat.
Arnold Jani: “We came here expecting a win but football as it is, we lost the match. In the first half everything was okay but in the second half they got a freekick which they utilized. We also got our chances which we didn’t capitalize on, but at the end of the day we lost the game. I give credit to the boys, they played very well. There was nothing wrong with their performance, it’s just that in football you win some and you lose some.”
