Muridzo stays put as Grand Legacy chase the crown

Grand Legacy FC’s 23-year-old holding midfielder George Muridzo has confirmed he is staying in Murehwa and fully focused on the Golden Boys’ title push, despite interest from Africa Mineral Ventures FC and Yadah FC.

The Murehwa-based club sit 3 points behind log leaders Tenax CS FC on 35 points, and Muridzo is a key reason they remain in the hunt after featuring in 15 games, scoring 4 goals and adding 4 assists from deep midfield.

Sources close to the player say former coach Collin Chinyani, now at Africa Mineral Ventures FC in Rusape, is a secret admirer keen to reunite with him, while former log leaders Yadah FC are also pushing behind the scenes to add steel to their midfield.

But Muridzo told Fanzone he is not distracted:

“I’m fully focused on Grand Legacy FC. We are fighting for the championship and that’s all that matters to me right now,” he said.

“I’m enjoying life in Murehwa. Gaffer Willard Katsande has been a massive inspiration to me. He tells us every day: never say never. That attitude has made me tougher in the tackle, calmer on the ball and more effective going forward.”

The journey that brought him here has taken him through JM Busha 54 FC, FC Hunters and an MCM Northern Region stint with Harare City FC, but he says he has found belief and responsibility at Grand Legacy:

“This club believes in me. The fans, the technical team, my teammates. We are building something here.”

With the squad buying into Katsande’s mindset, Muridzo will now turn his attention to a tough Week 17 test as Grand Legacy travel to Bikita this weekend to face Bikita Chida Athletic Club FC in a Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League encounter at Lithium Stadium.

A win there would keep the Golden Boys within touching distance of Tenax before the season reaches halftime.
