Munhumutapa Challenge Cup reaches boiling point as PSL form, derby pride and fairytale runs collide
The ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup quarter-finals are set, and with the league title race tightening and relegation battles raging, this last eight has never felt more important.
With silverware and bragging rights on the line, PSL form will be key as teams look to rescue their seasons or add another trophy to the cabinet.

For a club still finding its feet in the top flight, a deep cup run would be massive. Coach Kelvin Kaindu and his players know that the energy and form they have shown in the PSL must carry over if they are to outlast a stubborn Herentals College FC side that is always dangerous on its day.
CAPS UNITED CHASE CUP GLORY AFTER TITLE HOPES FADE
For CAPS United, the Munhumutapa Cup is now the main target. The Green Machine’s hopes of a PSL title have slipped away in recent weeks, leaving the cup as their best chance to end the season with silverware.
They face FC Hunters in a tricky tie against a team fighting for survival in the league. Make no mistake, CAPS will be desperate. With pressure mounting and fans demanding a trophy, Makepekepe need to turn their pedigree and experience into results in this knockout competition.

The fairytale story belongs to Blanket Mine FC. They are the only team from outside the PSL left standing, and they’ve earned it.
The Gwanda-based side have been excellent both in the Central Region Soccer League and in the Munhumutapa Cup, knocking out top-flight opposition to get this far.
Their discipline, work rate and belief have made them the tournament’s giant killers. Now comes their biggest test yet against FC Platinum.
A CENTRAL REGION DERBY WITH EXTRA SPICE
Blanket Mine against FC Platinum is more than just a quarter-final. It’s a Central Region derby. FC Platinum are the established powerhouse from Zvishavane, multiple PSL champions with continental experience.
Blanket Mine are the ambitious neighbors from Gwanda, dreaming of upsetting the big brother. For Blanket Mine, beating Pure Platinum Play would be the result of a generation. For FC Platinum, slipping up to a Division One side in a derby would be unthinkable. Dates for the quarter-finals are yet to be confirmed.
