Motaung reflects on Kaizer Chiefs’ Zimbabwean legacy

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has reflected on the key attributes that made Zimbabwean players thrive at the South African giants, in recent times.

Notable Zimbabweans have left a lasting mark at Amakhosi, including club legends Tinashe Nengomasha and Willard Katsande.

Strikers Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat and Kingston Nkhatha remain revered at the club, while defenders Thomas Sweswe, Zhaimu Jambo, Lincoln Zvasiya and Teenage Hadebe are also fondly remembered for their contributions.

With Scottland FC taking on Betway Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs in the 2026 Toyota Cup, Motaung has reflected on what stood out about the Zimbabweans who have worn the gold and black jersey.

“I think the professionalism and the quality of Zimbabwean players resonates with Kaizer Chiefs because of the culture, the humility they have, the respect they have, and also the respect for the badge,”Motaung told journaliats in South Africa.

“And since we’ve recruited in Zimbabwe, I think we’ve got the best out of Zimbabwean players and we’ve achieved a lot with them. In fact, we’ve exported them.

“Even Knowledge[Musona], spent one and a half years with us and went to Germany. It shows the quality and the calibre of the players that they’ve got there.

“So the relationship with us and Zimbabwe resonates from way back, during the early days when the chairman was still playing as well. It’s historical. It’s a love relationship with Zimbabwe.”
