Former Zimbabwe and Kaizer Chiefs defender Zhaimu ‘Jimmy’ Jambo has endorsed reigning Zimbabwean PSL champions Scottland FC as perfect opponents for Amakhosi in the 2026 Toyota Cup, adding that the match puts Zimbabwean football back in the spotlight.

Kaizer Chiefs will face Scottland FC in the third edition of the pre-season competition at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on July 26. Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans were the inaugural Toyota Cup guests, before Asante Kotoko graced the 2025 edition at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Now, Scottland FC head to Rustenburg as they prepare for their maiden CAF Champions League campaign in the 2026/27 season. Chiefs’ decision to play Scottland in the Toyota Cup has drawn scrutiny, with the Zimbabwean champions only three years old.

However, the Mabvuku-based club has made waves with high-profile signings, including ex-Chiefs stars Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat.

Their squad also features former Free State Stars goalkeeper Talbert Shumba, ex-Orlando Pirates striker Terrence Dzvukamanja, and Walter Musona, formerly of Polokwane City. Jambo, a Zimbabwean in Chiefs’ ranks, justified Scottland FC’s inclusion by highlighting their impact on football back home.

“I think it’s going to be a great game altogether, knowing the momentum Scottland have and the experience they carry with former Chiefs players Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona,” Jambo told the media at the Toyota Cup launch in Naturena recently.

“They also have former PSL players like Terrence Dzvukamanja. Coach Norman Mapeza understands PSL football too. It’s going to be a good game for football as a whole. Knowing Kaizer Chiefs, how they finished last season and how they’re shaping up for the new campaign, I think they have a solid base. We’re in for a good contest.

“I’m hoping it will unite Zimbabweans in the end. One thing I want to say about Scottland FC coming in is that Zimbabwean football has been on a decline lately. But now that they’re in the fold, you can see the supporters are back in stadiums. There’s a lot of buzz coming from the Zimbabwean side around the game again,” Jambo said.
