Yadah FC maintained their iron grip on the top of the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League after edging Mutare City Rovers FC 1-0 in a week 12 Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League encounter played at Chisamba Grounds in Mutare.

Paul Chiramba’s strike a quarter of an hour before the full-time whistle was all the Miracle Boys needed to open a five point gap at the top ahead of a host of week 12 fixtures this weekend. The forward broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with a clinical finish that settled the tight contest.

It was a cagey affair that saw the referee reach for his notebook four times. Mutare City were hit hardest, with Christian Mukonya cautioned in the 40th minute for stopping a promising attack, Leon Machaya booked in the 68th for a reckless challenge, and Jaison Moyo following him in the 72nd minute also for stopping a promising attack. Yadah’s only booking went to Leroy Saungweme in the 25th minute for a reckless challenge.

The win maintains their impressive record in Mutare where they have managed to collect eight points in Mutare. They now take their points tally to 27, five ahead of second placed Deportivo La Murambinda who travel to Mucheke Stadium to face Masvingo United FC this Sunday.

Speaking to Fanzone after the match, Yadah FC Assistant Coach Francisco Maapapi who was in charge of the dugout in the absence of gaffer Kudakwashe Masaraure was upbeat about the result, giving credit to the team for a well polished performance.

On the team’s mindset and morale, Maapapi said: “The morale in the camp is high and the boys are raring to go. Everyone is focused on grinding a positive result away from home.”

He added: “We are confident in getting the job done because of the morale that was high in their camp.”

On the title race and blocking out Deportivo La Murambinda: “We are not worried about Deportivo La Murambinda. Our focus is only on the opponent we will be facing on a particular day. We are taking it one game at a time.”

And on why the three points mattered so much for the trip back: “We really wanted to return to Harare with all the points because if we had failed to do so, it was going to be a long and miserable journey back to the capital.”
