Jere throws shade:’We are paying more than some of the teams you celebrate’

Caps United boss Farai Jere

Amid the Wallace Magalane drama at Caps United, club president Farai Jere has fired a subtle shot at the league’s “celebrated” clubs.

Speaking in Harare, Jere insisted Caps United pay more than several highly-rated PSL clubs, even as he banned Magalane from the squad.

He claims Caps United’s USD 100k-per-month salary bill tops some of the league’s most-praised sides in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The likes of Scottland FC, Hardrock FC, MWOS FC, and Simba Bhora have been perceived as part of the top-paying clubs, while traditional giants Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC huff and puff when it comes to finances.

However, Jere reckons his team is on top, as he could not hold back in his scathing address on Monday. First, he ripped into goalkeeper Magalane, saying the former FC Platinum shotstopper had been “banished into the wilderness” for insubordination.

Jere said Magalane is banned from being near Caps United players, but will continue to receive his salary for the remainder of his contract. Turning to club finances, Jere bragged about Caps United’s wage bill.

He said: “Every month, Caps United pays USD100,000 in salaries. If anyone was telling you stories that they’ve never missed a payment, that they are getting paid every month — those boys, I’m talking of USD 100,000,” Jere said.

“Yes, if people thought Caps United players are not being paid, we are paying more than some of the teams which you celebrate.”

Caps United recently endured a difficult winless streak in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. This poor run of form heavily derailed their early-season title push and caused significant frustration among the club’s hierarchy and fanbase.

After leading the league standings for a large portion of the early season, the poor run left them trailing league leaders Scottland by a nine-point margin. Scottland have 43 points, while Caps United are third with 34 points. Hardrock FC are second with 38 points.
