Harare City, Black Rhinos continue thrilling tug-of-war in Northern Region

The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League title race is developing into one of the most captivating battles in Zimbabwean football, with Harare City FC and Black Rhinos FC refusing to give each other breathing space at the top of the table.
After 19 rounds of action, the two sides are locked on 35 points, with Harare City occupying first place only by virtue of a superior goal difference (+13) compared to Black Rhinos’ (+11).
Week after week, the leadership of the league has changed hands, making every fixture crucial in the race for promotion. What makes the contest even more fascinating is that both teams have built their title challenges on defensive discipline.
Black Rhinos boast the league’s meanest defence, conceding just seven goals in 19 matches, while goalkeeper Richard Chiminga leads the Golden Gloves race with 13 clean sheets, the highest tally in the division.
Harare City may not have a goalkeeper in the clean-sheet standings, but their collective defensive organisation has seen them concede only 10 goals, enough to keep pace with the army side.

Behind the leading pair, Ngezi Stars U19 remain within touching distance on 32 points, while G&T Mining sit fourth on 30 points, ensuring that any slip-up from the top two could quickly reshape the title race.
As Matchday 20 gets underway, squad availability could also influence the battle at the summit. G&T Mining will be without Munashe Chiniko, while Ngezi Stars U19 miss Nyaradzai Ndlovu through suspension.
Elsewhere, teams including Banket United, HighRange, Chegutu Pirates, Chingwere, CP Chemicals, Shamva Mine, Jumbo Giants and Rangers will also be forced to cope without suspended players. With every point becoming increasingly valuable, this week’s fixtures carry enormous significance.
Another victory for either Harare City or Black Rhinos could once again swing the pendulum in the race for the number one spot, while any dropped points may hand their closest challengers an opportunity to close the gap.
Nineteen matchdays have produced a fascinating exchange of leadership between Harare City and Black Rhinos. If the first half of the season is anything to go by, supporters should expect many more twists before the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League champions are crowned.
