Harare City FC have reclaimed top spot in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League after capitalising on Black Rhinos’ slip-up at G & T Mine.

Going into Matchday 17, Black Rhinos sat at the summit with 30 points, one ahead of Harare City. However, the army side could only manage a frustrating 0-0 draw away to G & T Mine, opening the door for the Sunshine Boys.

Harare City seized the opportunity in style, defeating Cranborne Bullets 2-0 to move to 32 points, overtaking Black Rhinos who now drop to second on 31 points.

The result marks a significant shift at the top of the table, with the title race becoming even more competitive as the season enters a crucial stage. Harare City have now won nine of their 17 matches and boast one of the league’s strongest defensive records, having conceded just nine goals.

Behind the leading duo, Ngezi Stars U19 strengthened their title credentials with a 2-1 victory over Chingwere FC, moving up to third place on 28 points. Golden Eagles missed a chance to keep pace after suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to PAM FC, remaining on 26 points.

One of the biggest movers on the log was Jumbo Giants, whose 1-0 win over Marere FC lifted them into fifth position with 26 points, level with Golden Eagles but behind on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Karoi United edged CP Chemicals 1-0 to climb to sixth place, while Batanai FC’s 1-0 win over Rangers saw them continue their steady rise up the standings.

At the bottom end of the table, Shamva Mine and Black Mambas shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, while High Range and Zambezi G&C played out a goalless stalemate. FC Oden also boosted their survival hopes with a valuable 2-1 victory over MWOS U19.

With only one point separating Harare City and Black Rhinos, and just six points covering the top seven teams, the battle for the championship remains wide open.
