ZIFA issues stern warning after explosive Scottland/Caps United match-fixing audio

ZIFA General Secretary Yvonne Manwa

The Zimbabwe Football Association [ZIFA] has issued a stern warning to Premier Soccer League clubs against match manipulation following an explosive ‘match-fixing’ audio clip circulating on social media.

In the audio, a female official said to be aligned to Scottland FC is allegedly heard engaging a Caps United senior player to influence the upcoming PSL match between Caps United and Scottland FC.

The match is set for Rufaro Stadium on Thursday in a high-stakes clash. Scottland desperately need a win to stay within touching distance of log leaders Hardrock FC.

Hardrock currently sit on top with 69 points, while Scottland are second on 61 points, with two games in hand against Caps United FC and Chicken Inn FC.

ZIFA’S STERN STANCE ON ZERO TOLERANCE TO MATCH FIXING

Against that background, ZIFA General Secretary Yvonne Mapika Manwa has written to all PSL Governors reminding them of their responsibility to uphold integrity. In a letter dated 28 October 2026, ZIFA said:

“The integrity of our game remains non-negotiable. ZIFA maintains a firm zero-tolerance stance against match manipulation, corruption, and any conduct that undermines the credibility of football.”

ZIFA said all clubs must ensure their officials, players, technical teams and representatives conduct themselves in a manner that protects the reputation and values of the game.

“As custodians of Zimbabwean football, let us collectively safeguard the integrity of our competitions and ensure that every result is determined solely by merit, commitment, and performance on the field of play,” the letter reads.

ZIFA has not directly linked its warning to the leaked audio, and the authenticity of the audio and identity of the speakers are yet to be independently verified.

Furthermore, the Caps United against Scottland is now under added scrutiny, with fans calling on the PSL and ZIFA to investigate the matter.

While Caps United are well out of the PSL title race, any slip-up for Scottland could prove costly and ultimately see them surrender the PSL title to a marauding Hardrock which has since been grinding results in their last nine matches.

Scottland are still licking their wounds following a dramatic exit from the CAF Champions League that also saw the club changing hands with Norman Mapeza being fired and replaced by Peter Ndlovu on an interim basis.

How they maneuver themselves out of their despair remains to be seen, but at this point they are desperate to collect maximum points and hope that Hardrock will drop points in their upcoming matches.
