Yadah hold firm as race hots up ahead of midweek clashes
Yadah FC continue to rule the roost after the completion of match week 25 in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League.
Closest rivals Tenax CS FC who were held to a goalless draw by Africa Mineral Ventures FC this past weekend failed to cut the gap to two points.
The Miracle Boys who were inactive this past weekend will be looking to extend that gap when they host Destiny Stars FC on Wednesday as action in the East saunters towards the business end of the season.
It was action galore this past weekend as there was a total of 19 goals scored across match-day 25.
Power FC picked up only their second win of the season with a 2-0 home victory over Chivhu FC, while Deportivo La Murambinda FC edged Mutare City Rovers 1-0 to keep their promotion push alive.
FC Wangu Mazodze also grabbed a vital 1-0 win against Destiny Stars FC, and Buffaloes FC came from behind to beat Grand Legacy FC 3-2 in a thriller in Mutare.
Bikita Minerals FC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Great Zimbabwe University FC, and Green Fuel FC flexed their muscles with a 3-0 demolition of Four Lions FC.
Renco Mine FC extended their winning run to six matches with a 2-0 away win at Bikita Chida Athletic Club, and Masvingo United FC also won 2-0 at home against Manica Diamonds U19 FC.
The weekend’s other fixture saw Tenax CS FC and Africa Mineral Ventures FC play out a 0-0 stalemate, while Yadah FC were on bye.
The results leave Yadah FC still clear at the top on 52 points from 23 matches, five points ahead of Tenax CS FC who are second on 48 points from 24 games after dropping two more points.
Green Fuel FC and Deportivo La Murambinda FC are locked together on 47 points in joint third and fourth, with Africa Mineral Ventures FC in fifth on 45 points after holding Tenax.
Grand Legacy FC slip to sixth on 43 points following their loss to Buffaloes, and Renco Mine FC are right behind them in seventh on 41 points thanks to their sixth straight win which has made them the form team in the East.
At the bottom, Four Lions FC remain rooted on 11 points, while Power FC and Chivhu FC are both on 14 points but Power have a game in hand which could prove crucial in the relegation fight.
Attention now turns to Matchday 26 which kicks off on Wednesday 9 September with 7 fixtures all set for 15:00.
Yadah FC will be aiming to stretch their lead when they host Destiny Stars FC at Heart Stadium, while second-placed Tenax CS FC travel to Mucheke to face Four Lions FC in what looks like a banana peel on paper.
Green Fuel FC make the trip to Chisamba to take on Manica Diamonds U19 FC, and Renco Mine FC will look to make it seven in a row when they host Masvingo United FC at Maramba.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, GZU FC host Buffaloes FC at Gaths Mine, Bikita Chida Athletic Club welcome FC Wangu Mazodze to Lithium Stadium, and Chivhu FC host Bikita Minerals FC at Garwe.
The action continues on Thursday 10 September with Africa Mineral Ventures FC hosting Deportivo La Murambinda FC at Vengere in a top-five clash, and Mutare City Rovers FC facing Power FC at Chisamba, while Grand Legacy FC are on bye.
With 12 games to go, every point from here on out is going to count, and Matchday 26 could shift the log again.
