‘They make my job easy’ – Navaya credits teammates for his rise in Golden Boot race
Leading goalscorer Washington Navaya has credited his Hardrock FC teammates for ensuring he keeps scoring to remain at the top of the PSL goal charts.
Navaya notched a brace on Saturday, as the PSL title contenders demolished Manica Diamonds 3-0 at Chahwanda Stadium on Saturday.
His brace raised his goal tally to 14 goals in 26 matches, with eight games remaining before the curtain goes down.
Hardrock FC closed the gap between them and log leaders Scottland FC, to two points although the latter have a game in hand. The Kwekwe outfit sit on 51 points, while the 2025 Champions have 53 points on their tally.
His closest challengers are Khama Billiat of Scottland FC, Frank Agyemang of Dynamos and Herentals College FC’s Ralph Kawondera, who are tied on 11 goals.
In truth, Navaya looks set to retain the PSL Golden Boot award, which he won last season with 17 goals. This season, Navaya is eyeing to cross the 20 goal mark, which has been rare since the late Norman Maroto achieved it over a decade ago.

Speaking after winning the Luckbets Man of the Match award, Navaya heaped praise on his teammates for making his job easy.
“For me, goals are just the end product of what the team does. I have to give all the credit to the boys because they make it easy for me.
“The midfielders are winning the second balls, the wingers are putting in quality crosses, and even the defenders are starting attacks from the back with confidence. It’s not about one man, without them running for me, creating space, and sacrificing, I wouldn’t be anywhere near 14 goals.
“Last season I won the Golden Boot with 17 goals, but this year the target is bigger, maybe I will achieve it. Maybe I will reach 20 because it’s been a long time since someone did that. But I can’t do it alone.
“As long as we keep playing for each other and keep this unity in the dressing room, I believe we can chase Scottland and bring the title here. The fans deserve it, the club deserves it, and we are working every day to make it happen,” Navaya said.
