Former Great Zimbabwe University Football Club winger Shawn Mupesa is back in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League.

The 2025 PSERSL Soccer Star of the Year finalist has reportedly completed a move to Deportivo La Murambinda from MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League side FC Marere.

Mupesa joined Marere at the beginning of this campaign.

In seven appearances for the Binon Muhlangeni coached side, the winger chipped in with three assists.

But the pull of home and a title race proved too strong.

Speaking to Fanzone, Mupesa said the decision to leave Marere mid-season wasn’t easy, but the opportunity at La Murambinda changed everything.

“To be honest I really wanted to finish this season at Marere. The guys, the coach, everything was good. But the Deportivo La Murambinda offer was too good to turn down,” said Mupesa.

“The biggest thing for me is the prospect of fighting for the championship. They are in a five horse race right now and I want to be part of that. As a player you want to challenge for trophies and this is the chance.”

The Philip Guyo-owned side have been looking for more firepower upfront, and in Mupesa they get exactly that.

The winger was one of the standout performers in PSERSL last year with Great Zimbabwe University FC, where his performances earned him a place among the Soccer Star of the Year finalists.

He’s not the only big name walking through the door in Murambinda.

The club has also recently signed veteran midfielder Hillary Bakacheza from Masvingo United FC as the mid-season transfer window opened a few days ago.

Another midfielder is also rumoured to be on his way as head coach Lovemore Dzoro looks to strengthen ahead of the crucial second half.

For Mupesa, it’s a homecoming with purpose.

“I’m happy to be back in the PSERSL. This is where people know me from my GZU days. Now it’s about working hard, helping the team and pushing for the title with La Murambinda. The fans should expect energy, assists and goals,” added Mupesa.
