PSL promotion heats up in Central Region: Chapungu and Pirates send warning with 5-0 wins

It’s turning into a neck-and-neck affair between Chapungu FC and Gwanda Pirates FC as the Central Region Soccer League slowly reaches boiling point.

Chapungu and Gwanda Pirates both recorded emphatic 5-0 wins in Matchday 10 fixtures that were concluded on Monday, over FC Platinum Under-19 and Good Morning FC respectively.

While Chapungu lead with 26 points, Pirates have closed the gap to three points and now sit on 23 points after 10 rounds of fixtures.

It may be too early to call, but Chapungu FC under Tererai Zinyowera and Pirates under former Highlanders talisman Johannes Ngodzo have presented themselves as serious contenders for the promotion ticket in the region, as they sit first and second respectively.

Kwekwe United are also operating under the radar in third place with 20 points, followed by Grain Tigers and Blanket Mine FC who both have 19 points.

GOALS GALORE IN CENTRAL REGION MATCHDAY 10

Matchday 10 of the Central Region Soccer League brought goals, clean sheets, and a few statements across the region.

At Baghdad Stadium, Kwekwe United FC beat West Nicholson FC 3-1 in a lively match, while it was a stalemate at Phelandaba Stadium as Super Strikers FC and Blanket Mine FC played out a 0-0 draw.

At Ascot Stadium in Gweru, Chapungu FC tore apart FC Platinum U19 5-0. The young Platinum side had no answers as Chapungu ran riot on home turf.

Sunday was dominated by 1-0 and 3-0 scorelines. At Sabi Mine Stadium, Tongogara FC snatched a 1-0 win away at Sabi Gold Mine FC.

Shabanie Mine FC put three past Dulibadzimu United FC at Maglass Stadium to take all three points with a 3-0 result. Meanwhile, it was stalemate again at Makusha Stadium where Shurugwi FC and Matobo FC finished 0-0.

Additionally, ZRP Gwanda FC edged Grain Tigers FC 1-0 in another tight game at Phelandaba Stadium. MSU FC also enjoyed home comforts, thumping Vhembe Stars Academy FC 3-0 at MSU Grounds in Gweru.

The matchday wrapped up with the biggest scoreline on Monday as Gwanda Pirates FC crushed Good Morning FC 5-0 at Phelandaba Stadium, sending a warning to the rest of the league.
