Promoted, proven and pushing: Newcomers leave their mark in the Northern Region

Chingwere FC ahead of a MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League match

Life in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League is rarely easy for newly promoted clubs, but the 2026 newbies have shown that they belong. While some have exceeded expectations, others are fighting to stay afloat as the season reaches its halfway stage.

The standout performers among the promoted teams are G&T Mining FC, CP Chemicals FC and Chingwere FC, all of whom have firmly established themselves in the top half of the table.

G&T Mining have been the surprise package of the season, sitting third on the log with 36 points from 21 matches. Their consistency has kept them in the promotion conversation, making them one of the biggest success stories of the campaign.

CP Chemicals have also enjoyed an impressive debut season. They occupy sixth place with 31 points, proving they can compete with the league’s established sides and remaining within touching distance of the leading pack.

Chingwere, another promoted outfit, have adapted well to life in the division. Their eighth-place standing with 29 points reflects a solid first campaign and suggests they could still challenge for an even higher finish.

Just outside the top eight are Jumbo Giants, who sit ninth on 28 points. They have quietly put together a respectable season and have comfortably avoided being dragged into the relegation battle so far.

High Range FC, currently 16th with 24 points, remain just above the drop zone. While their position is far from comfortable, they are still in the fight and have every chance of securing survival if they can string together positive results in the second half of the season.

At the other end of the table, the battle for survival is becoming increasingly difficult for Batanai FC and Marere FC. Batanai occupy 19th place with 23 points, while Marere are rooted to the bottom in 22nd with 15 points after 20 matches.

Yet despite their struggles in the league, Marere have produced one of the stories of the season. The Sanyati-based side are the only promoted club to reach the Round of 32 of the ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup, keeping their hopes of a memorable cup run alive even as they battle to preserve their Northern Region status.

With the season still far from over, the promoted clubs have already shown that stepping up to Division One is no easy task. Some are dreaming of promotion, others are fighting for survival, but together they have added fresh energy, competitiveness and compelling storylines to the 2026 Northern Region Soccer League.
