Black Rhinos seize pole position in MCM Northern Region Soccer League title race

The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League produced another thrilling round of action on Matchday 14, with Black Rhinos claiming top spot after Harare City failed to make home advantage count against FC Oden.
Heading into the matchday, Harare City knew victory would keep them at the summit, but FC Oden proved difficult opponents as they battled to a 2-2 draw. The dropped points opened the door for Black Rhinos, and the army side grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Rhinos delivered a commanding 3-1 victory over Rangers FC to move to 26 points from 14 matches, climbing to the top of the standings. The army side’s consistency continues to make them one of the strongest contenders for promotion, having now won seven matches while boasting one of the league’s best defensive records with just six goals conceded.
The title race, however, remains far from settled.
Harare City are only one point behind on 25 points, while Ngezi Stars U19 sit third on 23 points with a game in hand. A victory against Black Mambas on Thursday could pull the young miners within touching distance of the leaders.
Golden Eagles continued their resurgence with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over MWOS U19. The win keeps them fourth on 22 points and firmly in the promotion conversation. They are level on points with fifth-placed CP Chemicals, who edged G & T Mining 3-2 in a five-goal thriller to maintain pressure on the teams above them.
Chegutu Pirates also strengthened their position in the top half after a narrow 1-0 victory over High Range FC. The Pirates now have 19 points and remain within striking distance of the leading pack in what is proving to be one of the most competitive Northern Region seasons in recent years.
Elsewhere, Jumbo Giants collected a valuable 2-1 away win over Zambezi G & C, moving onto 19 points, while Banket United eased some relegation concerns with a 2-1 victory over Shamva Mine FC.
At the bottom end of the table, Shamva Mine remain rooted near the foot of the standings on 12 points, alongside Marere FC, while Zambezi G & C continue to struggle in the relegation zone with 13 points.
Attention now shifts to Thursday’s fixtures, where several clubs have the chance to reshape the table. Ngezi Stars U19 host Black Mambas at Baobab Stadium, high-flying Chingwere FC take on Karoi United at Chikangwe Stadium, Batanai FC welcome PAM FC to Trojan Mine Stadium, while Cranborne Bullets face Marere FC at Commando Barracks.
With only five points separating leaders Black Rhinos and sixth-placed Chingwere FC, the battle for top owners remains wide open. Every point is proving crucial, and Matchday 15 promises yet another chapter in an increasingly fascinating MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League season.
