Pacific Storm turbulence: Title race cut to four as AMV strike and Tenax stumble

The Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League continued today with results that have blown the title race wide open once again and reminded everyone that no lead is safe at this stage of the season.

Yadah FC had started the weekend in command after opening up a 6-point advantage at the top with a win yesterday, but by this afternoon that cushion had been cut to just four points following a ruthless performance from Africa Mineral Ventures FC.

At Vengere Stadium AMV put three goals past Bikita Chida Athletic Club without reply in a 3-0 victory that not only kept their own ambitions alive but also lifted them into second place on the log standings.

The day’s biggest shock, however, came at Gathsmine Stadium where Tenax CS FC missed a golden opportunity to close the gap to two points and instead suffered a damaging 1-0 defeat to a determined Great Zimbabwe University FC.

Tenax arrived expecting to collect maximum points against what many assumed would be a straightforward assignment, but the Students had other ideas and showed the Prison and Correctional Officers that it takes two to tango.

The loss leaves Tenax stuck on 42 points and watching as AMV leapfrogged them into second place, turning what looked like a two-horse race into a much tighter contest at the summit.

Other results from today, Four Lions FC lost 0-2 to Renco Mine FC, Grand Legacy FC and Deportivo La Murambinda drew 1-1 while in Mutare, Mutare City Rovers FC beat Masvingo United FC 1-0.

ACTION CONTINUES TOMMOROW

Green Fuel FC will make the trip to Garwe Stadium to face Chivhu FC in a match that offers both sides the chance to gain valuable ground, while at Chisamba Grounds Manica Diamonds U19 FC will entertain FC Wangu Mazodze in what promises to be an open encounter.
