Betway Premiership side Durban City have loaned Warriors star Emmanuel Jalai to defending Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Scottland, Fanzone can reveal.

Jalai (27), joined City midway through the 2025/26 season after spending six years at Dynamos, where he made 180 appearances for the Harare giants, whom he also captained for three seasons.

The Warriors defender made 19 appearances for City across all competitions last season.

Durban City have loaned the diminutive right back to Scottland for six months, as part of the two sides’ US$1.5 million ‘landmark strategic partnership to strengthen football development, technical collaboration, and commercial growth’, signed back in February.

The partnership between Durban City and Scottland, is ‘a shared vision to develop world-class talent through structured player pathways, coaching exchange programmes, joint youth development initiatives, and competitive fixtures across senior and youth levels.’

A well-placed source at Scottland, told Fanzone that Jalai, who had travelled back to South Africa, is expected back in Zimbabwe next week, where he will be unveiled by the Pedzai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya-owned outfit.

Jalai was outstanding for City in his debut season in South Africa after helping the Durban-based side to Nedbank Cup success and a top eight finish.

WHY SCOTTLAND NEEDED JALAI?

Norman Mapeza’s Scottland have been patching up the right-back slot all season. Shidolo, a central midfielder, has been tweaked to fill in the void, while centre-back Mohammed Issaka has also had to provide.

Godknows Murwira — who owned that spot under Tonderai Ndiraya has largely been sidelined. Meanwhile, the only other natural right-back on the club’s books, Gareth Madhake, is on the treatment table with injury.

Simply put, Jalai’s arrival should give Mapeza the specialist option he has been missing, while the likes of Murwira and Madhake drop down the pecking order.

He is expected to play a significant role in Scottland’s debut CAF Champions League campaign, as Mabviravira seek to make an impact in Africa’s premier club competition.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO TEST SCOTTLAND’s PEDIGREE BEFORE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

On 26 July, Scottland will face Kaizer Chiefs at Rustenburg’s Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the 2026 Toyota Cup.
The fixture marks Scottland’s first competitive game outside Zimbabwe.

Kaizer Chiefs have already face Young Africans in 2024 and Asante Kotoko in 2025, a sign that the cup tie carries real weight. For Scottland, it’s an ideal build-up ahead of their CAF Champions League campaign whose preliminary round starts in September.
