Mutare holds breath as Tenax, Rovers ignite week 5

Week 5 of the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League explodes into life today with the fixture every Mutare fan has circled in red: the Mutare Derby.
Old foes Tenax Correctional Services Football Club and Mutare City Rovers Football Club lock horns at Mutare Boys High.
This clash kicks off a busy Week 5 weekend that will see several matches tomorrow on Independence Day and more on Sunday.
But make no mistake, the tone for the round gets set right here, right now.
This is a high stakes game. For Tenax, it’s about momentum. For Rovers, it’s about statement.
Gibson Mutemera’s Tenax had a false start to the 2026 campaign, but the Prison Warders have found their groove.
Goals, which were a major worry early on, have started to flow.
Identical 1-0 wins were followed by a convincing 2-0 victory over Chivhu FC in Week 4 has taken them to seven points.
That’s six points on the trot. They are on a roll. And they will be looking to make it three consecutive wins when they face their city rivals this afternoon.
Mutare City Rovers FC arrive with a different kind of swagger.
Gusha Bhora are yet to taste defeat in the Pacific Storm and sit just a point behind Tenax on the log.
They come into this derby off a gallant goalless draw with log leaders Green Fuel FC last week – a result that showed they can go toe-to-toe with the best.
For Rovers to take the city bragging rights, they will be hoping star striker Raymond Manangazira is in top form as they make the short trip to Mutare Boys High.
When Manangazira fires, Rovers usually collect maximum points.
Form says Tenax. Resilience says Rovers. History says chaos.
Tenax want to rake up the points and charge towards the leading pack.
Rovers want to keep their unbeaten run and leapfrog their neighbours.
One point separates them, years of rivalry back it, and a packed Mutare Boys High will witness it.
