MCM Estates NRSL title race heats up as match day 17 beckons

The 2026 MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League season is entering a fascinating phase, with just four points separating the top five teams after 16 rounds of action.
At the summit, Black Rhinos FC continue to set the pace with 30 points from 16 matches. The army side has built its success on a rock-solid defence that has conceded only six goals all season, the best defensive record in the league. However, their lead is far from comfortable.
Breathing down their necks are Harare City FC, just one point behind on 29 points. The Sunshine Boys have been one of the most consistent sides this campaign and face a crucial test against sixth-placed Cranborne Bullets on Wednesday. Victory could temporarily send them to the top of the table and pile pressure on the leaders.
Golden Eagles FC remain firmly in contention in third place with 26 points. They travel to face PAM FC, a side desperate to climb away from the congested mid-table pack. Eagles know that any slip-up could see the gap between themselves and the leaders widen.
Fourth-placed Ngezi Stars U19 and fifth-placed Chingwere FC will clash in one of the standout fixtures of Matchday 17. With only one point separating the two teams, this encounter could significantly influence the race for promotion honours. A win for Ngezi Stars U19 would strengthen their position among the frontrunners, while Chingwere could leapfrog their rivals with maximum points.
The biggest spotlight, however, falls on Thursday’s blockbuster encounter between G & T Mining FC and league leaders Black Rhinos FC. G & T Mining sit eighth with 23 points and have shown they can trouble any side in the division. Rhinos will be keen to maintain their grip on top spot, but this fixture has all the ingredients of a potential upset.
Elsewhere, several teams will be battling for crucial points in the middle of the table. Karoi United FC host CP Chemicals FC in a contest between two sides separated by just one point, while Batanai FC and Rangers FC meet in another evenly matched encounter with both teams locked on 20 points.
At the bottom end of the table, survival points are becoming increasingly valuable. Shamva Mine FC, currently 21st with 15 points, face Black Mambas FC knowing a victory could lift them out of the relegation zone. Bottom-placed Marere FC will be hoping home advantage can help them secure a much-needed result against ninth-placed Jumbo Giants FC.
Another intriguing battle sees High Range FC take on Zambezi G & C FC, with both sides eager to create breathing space between themselves and the relegation places.
With the title race tightening, promotion hopefuls jostling for position, and relegation battles intensifying, Matchday 17 promises to be one of the most significant rounds of the season so far. Every point matters as the race for Northern Region Soccer League glory enters a decisive stage.
