MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League heads for season break

The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League has reached its mid-season break after 21 rounds of action, with the campaign set to resume on 5 August following the Super 8 Tournament.

Black Rhinos head into the break as league leaders with 41 points, opening a five-point cushion over Harare City and G&T Mine, who are tied on 36 points. Rhinos have built their lead on the league’s best defensive record, conceding just eight goals in 21 matches.

The title race, however, remains wide open. Harare City, G&T Mine and fourth-placed Ngezi Stars U19 (33 points) remain within striking distance, while Golden Eagles and CP Chemicals, both on 31 points, cannot be ruled out.

The race for the inaugural Super 8 places has been settled, with Black Rhinos, Harare City, G&T Mine, Ngezi Stars U19, Golden Eagles, CP Chemicals, Cranborne Bullets and Chingwere booking their places.

For teams like Jumbo Giants, FC Oden and High Range, missing out by narrow margins will be a disappointment as they now shift their focus to climbing the league table in the second half of the season.

At the other end, the battle for survival is becoming increasingly intense.
Marere remain rooted to the bottom with 16 points, while Shamva Mine (21), Zambezi G & C (22), Batanai (23) and PAM (23) all head into the break knowing a strong second half will be vital. With only a handful of points separating several clubs above the relegation zone, the fight for survival is far from over.

With the title race still alive, the Super 8 tournament around the corner and the relegation battle set to intensify, the second half of the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League season promises plenty of drama when action resumes on 5 August.
