Manica Diamonds hold Highlanders as unbeaten run extends to four.

Manica Diamonds picked up another point in their fight for survival after a 0-0 draw with Highlanders FC at Sakubva Stadium in Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matchday 14.
The result extends The Gem Boys’ unbeaten streak to four matches and sees them move to fourth from bottom on the log, the last relegation spot, as they continue their gradual climb up the table.
Head coach Tafadzwa Mashiri was pleased with his side’s performance, particularly in the first half where he felt they had the better of Highlanders.
“I think we played very well, in the first half we created so many chances, we were all over Highlanders,” Mashiri said.
He stressed that the difference at this level often comes down to finishing, noting that missed opportunities can be costly. “At this level I think it requires a high level of technical proficiency especially in front of goal because if you don’t bury the chances that you get you suffer.”
Highlanders came out stronger after the break and created several openings, but Mashiri credited his players for holding firm. “In the second-half Highlanders were playing much better than us, they created so many chances and could have hurt us but we were fortunate to be able to defend those chances.”
Overall, the coach was encouraged by the momentum his side is building and the way they are adapting to his demands. “But I’m happy with the performance of the boys, I’m happy we are maintaining the same momentum to do better in the second game. I’m happy that the boys have adapted to the style of play that I demand from them and I’m looking forward to better performances in the coming games,” he said.
Mashiri also pointed to the congested fixture schedule as a challenge, saying there is little time to address areas of weakness. “It’s unfortunate the games are coming thick and fast, there is no time to work on other areas that we have deficiencies.”
Manica Diamonds will look to make it five games unbeaten as they continue their push to climb out of the relegation zone.
