Clutch King Sackey keeps La Murambinda’s PSL dream alive

Deportivo La Murambinda’s Enock Sackey has become the man for the moment, and the Ghanaian striker isn’t shying away from the spotlight.
Sackey struck again over the weekend to hand La Murambinda a crucial win over Renco Mine FC, his second stoppage-time winner in as many games after a similar late blow against Manica Diamonds U19.
The back-to-back clutch goals have pushed Murambinda into 3rd place after week 10 and marked them as one of the dark horses in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League title race.
The 26-year-old is one of four Ghanaian internationals signed by the ambitious Murambinda side owned by Buhera North House of Assembly member Philip Guyo, as the club declared its intention of grabbing the sole ticket to the Premier Soccer League by year end.
He’s joined by attacking midfielder George Adu, who has also stepped up with crucial goals, defender Andrew Allotey, who has had a solid start at the back, and left back Marcelo Azizi, who has had a few cameos.
Speaking on his knack for late goals, he told Fanzone: “I thrive on the pressure, it drives me to perform better. In those final minutes, my focus is on the task at hand – executing the plays and making the most of scoring opportunities. The adrenaline rush and the desire to win push me to give my best.”
The forward has hit the ground running since arriving from Ghana, slotting seamlessly into Murambinda’s attack.
He credits the quick adaptation to the welcome he’s received both at the club and in the community.
“I’ve settled in well, thanks to the warm welcome from the team and the community,” he said. “The biggest adjustment was adapting to the local style of play and the physical demands of the PSERSL. The food, culture, and scenery are all pluses. Ghana and Zimbabwe share some cultural similarities, making it easier to adjust.”
With Murambinda now firmly in the mix, Sackey is keeping his sights high. Individually, he wants to keep the goals flowing, but the team goal is bigger.
“Individually, I aim to maintain this scoring streak and contribute significantly to the team’s success,” he said. “As for Murambinda’s finish, I believe we can push for the top spot. We’ve shown great potential, and with consistent performances, we can achieve a lot this season.”
