Jonah Fabisch set for Betway Premiership move

Warriors midfielder Jonah Fabisch is set to complete a move to South Africa’s Betway Premiership ahead of the 2026/27 season, it has emerged.

The 24-year-old, who was last with FC Erzgebirge Aue in Germany’s lower divisions, is in South Africa to finalize the deal, according to Zimbabwean football writer based in SA, Mthokozisi Dube.

It is not clear which club he will be joining ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, which kicks off next month, but he touched down at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday evening to finalise his move.

If he joins the South African elite league, he will follow the likes of Divine Lunga of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates’ Daniel Msendami, Magesi FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipeze, Kruger United’s Tatenda Tavengwa, and AmaZulu FC’s Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya in the South African football ranks.

Fabisch is among a new generation of Zimbabwean internationals expected to spearhead The Warriors in the years ahead. The composed and hardworking midfielder caught the eye with steady performances against Egypt and Angola, anchoring the team with maturity.

He is the son of the late Reinhard Fabisch, the influential German coach who left a lasting mark on football in both Zimbabwe and Kenya.

In Kenya, Reinhard guided Harambee Stars to the final of the 1987 All-Africa Games on home soil — an achievement that remains part of African football folklore.

Jonah’s club career has been based in Germany, with spells at Erzgebirge Aue, 1. FC Magdeburg, and Hamburger SV, where he featured for both the youth and reserve sides.
