Fabisch seals long-term deal with Golden Arrows for first stint in Africa

Warriors midfielder Jonah Fabisch is set for his first stint in Africa after signing a long-term deal with Betway Premiership side Golden Arrows, it has emerged

Arrows are yet to confirm but South African publication FARPost has revealed the 24-year-old has sealed a long-term move with the Durban-based club.

Fabisch was on the books of German 3. Liga side Erzgebirge Aue, but his contract ended at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. The steady midfielder has only played in German, where he also played for Hamburger SV at youth level and FC Magdeburg II.

Fabisch arrived in Durban late last month and his arrival sparked interest from a number of Betway Premiership teams, including Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu FC.

After a short stay in Durban, Fabisch flew back to Europe to make his decision. According to FARPost, it is understood he was initially not keen to leave Europe, with a few clubs abroad also chasing him.

In the end, Arrows moved fastest and signed him on a long-term contract. Fabisch will return to South Africa in the coming week to link up with the squad.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu FC were keen on his services but later withdrew their interest. Cape Town-based side Stellenbosch were also in the mix.

The midfielder was reportedly recommended by Warriors goalkeeper coach Pernell McKop, who works at Stellenbosch FC. Sekhukhune United were also monitoring him.

Fabisch’s key attributes are his technique and football intelligence, which made him one of the top free agents this window. This will be his first time playing in Africa.

His late father had an illustrious career in Africa, having taken charge of Mamelodi Sundowns, Zimbabwe and Kenya before his passing.
