Dedication driving Harare City’s NRSL title charge, says Try Ncube

Harare City head coach Try Ncube has credited dedication, hard work and determination for his side’s impressive resurgence in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League as the Sunshine Boys continue their pursuit of the championship and the league’s sole promotion ticket to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Harare City’s title ambitions received a significant boost on Matchday 26 after they emerged as the only victorious side among the top four teams, allowing them to close the gap in one of the most fiercely contested promotion races in recent years.

Reflecting on his team’s recent performances, Ncube said the players’ commitment and resilience have been the driving force behind their return to form.

“Our current form is a result of dedication, hard work and determination from everyone involved. The players have remained focused, they have continued believing in themselves, and they are now reaping the rewards of their efforts,” said Ncube.

The former Highlanders assistant coach believes the pressure has largely rested on the teams occupying the top of the standings, a situation that has enabled his side to quietly rebuild momentum.

“The pressure has always been on the log leaders because they are the ones everyone is chasing. That has given us an opportunity to quietly regain our form and confidence without putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves,” he said.

Ncube added that his team’s ability to capitalise while their direct rivals stumbled reflects the growing character and maturity within the squad.

“Being the only winners among the top four teams on Matchday 26 is significant. It shows that the players are responding well when it matters most. We have to remain humble, continue working hard and take each game as it comes because nothing has been won yet. It’s a long way to go. There will be more twists and turns as we approach the final games, and this is not a two-horse race. Any of the top nine teams still have a mathematical chance of winning the league.”

With only one promotion place available to the Premier Soccer League, every point has become increasingly valuable as the championship race enters its decisive stages.

Harare City will be looking to maintain their momentum when they travel to Chikangwe to face Karoi United, with the Sunshine Boys aiming to extend their winning run and strengthen their promotion bid.

Despite his team’s recent resurgence, Ncube insists discipline, determination and teamwork will remain essential if Harare City are to secure a return to the top flight.
