AMV’s Rudhaka move hit brickwall as league says no written notice
Africa Mineral Ventures FC’s bold plan to ditch Vengere Stadium for Rudhaka Stadium has hit a snag.
Fanzone understands AMV wanted Rudhaka in Marondera as their home for the remainder of the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League season. But sources in the league say the club did not formally notify the league in writing of the decision.
That means for Week 22, AMV will still host unpredictable Bikita Chida Athletic Club at Vengere Stadium in Rusape, as listed in the official Matchday 22 fixture release.
The club remains determined to make the switch though.
“The writing was on the wall a month ago when AMV relocated their club house from Rusape to Harare,” revealed a source close to the club.
Fanzone is told the Rudhaka move will still go ahead once the snag is addressed in the near future.
It brings the curtain down on what has been a strong support base for AMV in Rusape this season. Both Vengere and Rudhaka are owned by their respective municipalities Rusape Town Council and Marondera Municipality.
Efforts to get a comment from club Chairman Godfrey Mufuranhewe on what necessitated the move from their strong fan base to Marondera were not fruitful as his mobile phone was not reachable.
The move now leaves questions hanging. Will the AMV faithful follow them 96 kilometres west to Marondera once approved? Or will Rudhaka become a neutral ground for a team chasing promotion?
There is precedent for success at Rudhaka as the iconic stadium was last used by FC Hunters last year, and they used it as a launchpad all the way to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
With AMV currently 3rd on 39 points, just 4 points off top spot, this off-field drama comes at the most critical point of the season.
One thing is certain, Week 22 against Bikita Chida is no longer just 3 points on the backdrop of their 1-0 loss away at Renco Mine FC this past weekend.
It will be AMV’s last statement at Vengere before a potential new chapter in Marondera.
