8 home games, zero points: Chaminuka wants TelOne to quit ‘cursed’ Ascot Stadium

Ascot Stadium has become TelOne FC’s graveyard. After eight home games and eight losses, the WiFi Boys have picked zero points at home. And Coach Saul Chaminuka now says the club must leave the venue he believes has bad luck

TelOne FC lost 1-0 to fellow strugglers Agama FC on Sunday at Ascot Stadium in a dull match at the Gweru facility. Budding star Ralph Nyamupurika scored right before half-time to seal Agama’s win. That goal gave Agama FC only their second win of the season.

Interestingly, after the match, TelOne FC players were blunt. “We are tired of this venue,” some, including goalkeeper Criss Mverechena, were heard saying.

So far, they have dropped 24 points at home this season. Even under former coach Herbert Maruwa, Ascot Stadium gave them nothing. They have only recorded one win in 15 matches, which was against Triangle at Gibbo Stadium.

THAT’S THE GENERAL FEELING SAYS SAUL CHAMINUKA

Tawanda Macheke, Innocent Mucheneka and Bruno Mtigo tried everything, but it amounted to nothing. While he cut a sombre figure during the post-match interviews, Chaminuka admitted the mood is low and has hinted at a possible venue change.

“I think that’s the general feeling with the whole team, the players and me included. We need to get away from this pitch [Ascot Stadium] and play elsewhere,” Chaminuka said.

“If we are thinking of winning, you cannot talk about superstition, but when a team has lost eight games at home, that must mean something. We can even play in Harare”

The result left TelOne FC bottom of the PSL table with just eight points. One win all season, and that came away at Triangle United. Sadly at home, Ascot keeps burying them.
