Zimbabwe Boxing and Wrestling Control Board set for stakeholders engagement workshop

The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board will host its annual stakeholder engagement today.

The workshop will be held at the National Sports Stadium.

Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board, Maculwamahle Nkomo, told Fanzone that stakeholder engagement is core and key.

“As we roll out the year, we engage stakeholders and tell them our expectations. At the end of the year, we engage them to get their feedback on what we’ve done right, where we’ve done wrong, and where we need to correct,” said Nkomo.

“Needs always change due to the sports climate change. We consult and then have a stakeholders’ engagement meeting, followed by strategic planning with key people from associations and those key to us, like athletes, coaches, and promoters.

“We map our way to put strategic planning, goals, and targets with them, as they are the owners of the sport.

“From that planning, we engage them, notifying them of the issues raised. This is what we have this year, and this is what we expect.

“For instance, anti-doping tests and medical tests, pre- and post-, are really key, especially in our sport. We’ve not been strict on doping, but this year, there will be doping tests, pre- and post-, because we had a boxer stripped of his title after a doping test came back positive.

“They (boxers /wrestlers)need to know that anti-doping tests can happen unannounced, and they can’t dodge them.

“It’s not negotiable, so it’s important to engage at the start of the year so we can walk and work together,” she added.
