TelOne cut ties with Maruwa but who will replace him?

Herbert Maruwa at Rufaro Stadium

TelOne FC have cut ties with coach Herbert Maruwa after days of speculation over his future at the struggling Gweru-based side, Fanzone can reveal.

Maruwa, who led The Wifi Boys to a historic fifth-place finish last season, struggled to keep the team on track this season.

In nine games, they lost six games and drew three, sitting precariously in 16th place with three points, just above Agama FC and Manica Diamonds.

They are yet to win at home, having lost all home against Dynamos, Simba Bhora, Scottland Chicken Inn and Herentals College FC. The other defeat came at the hands of Caps United at Rufaro stadium.

They drew with MWOS FC, FC Platinum and ZPC Kariba respectively. Though, they are yet to officially confirm Maruwa’s departure, Fanzone can reveal they are on loggerheads over who should take over

WHO WILL REPLACES JOMPANO AT TELONE?

TelOne FC, however, are yet to find a replacement for the former Dynamos son. Charles Mutero, who was Maruwa’s first assistant, is holding fort on an interim basis as the club looks for a fitting replacement. They face Triangle on Sunday at Gibbo Stadium.

A number of names have been thrown into the hat, including Saul Chaminuka, Luke Masomere, and Thulani Sibanda. However, Fanzone understands Mukupali Masuku could be the surprise appointment for the coaching job at TelOne FC.

Masuku, a former Harare City and Warriors assistant coach, could be on his return to the dugout as he is seen as a better and untainted coach compared to the likes of Chaminuka and Masomere, who have previously led teams to relegation.

It remains to be seen who will take over the reins at the club. But TelOne have also retained the bulk of the technical team, which includes the likes of Jacob Muzokomba, Jimmy Tigere, and Ndege Matsika.
