Rising from the dead: The Undertaker proving critics wrong and slowly taking Bosso to where they belong

18 March 2026 will always be remembered as a day when headlines were made for the wrong seasons at Babourfields Stadium.

The iconic venue hosted Highlanders’ match day 3 encounter against last season’s runners up MWOS.

For a match played on a Wednesday, the contest attracted a decent crowd, as is always the case whenever Bosso play at Emagumeni.

Despite being an entertaining battle between two teams that like to pass the ball around, the match ended goalless, to the frustration of a section of Bosso fans, who at the time, had not celebrated a single victory since Benjani Mwaruwari took over the reigns.

A missile directed at Mwaruwari on his way to the post-match press conference, missed the former Manchester City striker by whisker.

The culprit’s mission to hit the former Warriors captain with a missile, successfully failed.

While some Bosso fans argued that the culprit’s behavior ought to be treated with the utmost contempt, the sad reality is that the incident portrayed a vivid picture of hooligans masquerading as football fans.

It also portrays, regrettably that is, a dangerous level of impatience, which saw a ‘fan’ resorting to hitting the coach of the club he supposedly loves, with a missile, simply because he had not won in his first three matches in charge of the Bulawayo giants.

By the way, he had also not lost any of the aforementioned games.

Some Highlanders fans had forgotten, conveniently that is, that the majority of players signed by the club ahead of the 2026 Premier Soccer League season, were released by other clubs because they had become surplus to requirements.

“Football is a process,” Mwaruwari kept on saying every time he was quizzed by the media on the results Bosso were getting.

But 15 match days into the season, it’s a completely different picture.

Highlanders have won three of their last five matches and were somewhat very unfortunate not to be the first team to inflict a defeat on Ngezi Platinum, when the two sides eventually settled for a goalless share of the spoils at Babourfields on May 17.

Bosso have collected 11 points from a possible 15 in their last five matches and are now just six points adrift of log leaders Hardrock.

They (Bosso) also have the third best defence in the Premiership, having conceded eight goals in 15 matches.

Only CAPS United have beaten Bosso so far this season.

Defending champions Scottland, last season’s runners up MWOS, old foes Dynamos, couldn’t find a way past Mwaruwari’s Highlanders.

Bosso are the only team to have beaten Hardrock at Chahwanda Stadium so far this season, when Reason Sibanda’s goal of the season contender sunk the Golden Boys on May 13.

Bosso welcome out of sorts TelOne at Babourfields this weekend before traveling to Shamva for a date with Agama on match day 17.
