Peter Ndlovu chooses destiny over roots

Peter Ndlovu has revealed his stance on Highlanders FC — a club that honed his skills along with his brothers Madinda and the late Adam, before rising to stardom in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Ndlovu, who previously served as Mamelodi Sundowns’ team manager under Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena, joined Scotland FC this season, a club headlined by ex-Kaizer Chiefs duo Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona.
The former Zimbabwe Warriors captain, the first African to play in the English Premier League as a Coventry City player, is a revered figure in Zimbabwean football. He is working hand-in-glove with Norman Mapeza, appointed head coach at the end of November 2025.
That was after the Harare-based side accounted for their first Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title under the mentorship of Tonderai Ndiraya.
Over time, the Zimbabwean football community has lobbied for the 52-year-old to be included in The Warriors’ technical team set-up. However, he chose Scottland FC, where they will take part in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.

Asked about his allegiance to the Bulawayo giants, Highlanders FC, a club that honed his skills alongside his brothers, Madinda and Adam Ndlovu, he said his destiny is more important than his roots.
“It is what you are destined for, not where you have been working or where you have been — it’s where you are that’s very special. So, I’m with Scottland — I represent Scotland in every part, and that’s what I want. I want to win; I’m a winner. I was born a winner, so I think everything should come up on top for me,” Ndlovu said during Scotland FC’s podcast.
Interestingly, Ndlovu’s return to Zimbabwe’s top flight also coincided with Esrom Nyandoro and Benjani Mwaruwari taking up local roles. Nyandoro is now the Warriors team manager and a scout for Kwekwe United, while Mwaruwari is head coach at Highlanders FC.
