Paris FC move excites Munetsi

Warriors star Marshall Munetsi has expressed delight in his move to Paris FC, saying the environment at the club is conducive for him to excel.

The Mabvuku-bred utility player joined Paris on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season.

Munetsi is no stranger to the French Ligue 1, having previously turned out for Stade de Reims.

Speaking to the Paris FC club website, Munetsi said: “I’m very happy to be here. I found a club where there are many players I already know, and I think that helped a lot because we already had some connections.

“I really liked the project. Even when I arrived here, I had many discussions with the coach, and for me it’s mainly about trying to help the club stay in Ligue 1 and to have a strong second half of the season.

“There are many players I’ve played with before. They talked to me and told me that it’s a very good club and that they are trying to achieve great things. First of all, there are the players — Ilan, Mustapha, Mathieu, Cafaro, and many others,” he added.

Munetsi is relishing the prospect of playing against some of the big teams in France again, notably reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

“For me, playing here in Paris is also something special because I’ve already played here before, especially against PSG. For me, it was also a dream to try to do something exceptional,” he said.

The former Orlando Pirates and Baroka star heaped praise on Paris FC coach Stéphane Gilli, describing the Frenchman as a kind human being whose ideas are straightforward.

“I find the coach very kind, and his ideas are very clear. That’s why this project really interests me, because there is the sporting aspect but also the human aspect. We had very good discussions with him,” said Munetsi.

“Here, it really feels a bit like Africa, because there are many players who have played in Africa. It’s very important for me to stay connected with the players. I’ve already watched many matches, and I think we will complement each other very well. For me, football is important, but beyond football, there are relationships — you have to be connected with your teammates.”
