Ndiraya on facing Bosso: ‘We don’t want to be their first victim..’

Tonderai Ndiraya bracing for his first Bulawayo derby, warning that his team is determined to avoid being the first victim of Highlanders FC’s frustration stemming from their current winless streak.
While Highlanders are scheduled to take on Scotland FC in the upcoming Independence Cup in Maphisa, Chicken Inn will also take on Bulawayo Chiefs in the Bulawayo Provincial celebrations.
Meanwhile, Ndiraya’s mind is on his first experience of the Bulawayo derby to be played on Wednesday 22 April, at the Barbourfields Stadium.
The Gamecocks have had a decent start to the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, with three wins, three draws and one loss.
As such, the two-time PSL Championship winning coach reckons Bosso will aim to break their duck in the Bulawayo derby. But he is determined to rub salt into their wounds.
WHAT THE GAMECOCKS COACH SAID
So far, under Benjani Mwaruwari, Highlanders have been winless in the seven matches played, having drawn all the matches. They have not scored in the last five matches. The last time they scored was against Dynamos FC in their 2-2 draw on 15 March at Rufaro Stadium.
“Highlanders won’t be an easy game; they have been drawing most of their games, which shows they have got something in their team,” Ndiraya said.
“It’s a derby, and we expect a very fierce contest between the two teams. Hopefully, we can come to the party when we play that match. We don’t want to be the first victim.
“Apart from that, we’re also dealing with some injuries in our team. We are hoping that by the time we play Highlanders, most of our players will be back from their injuries.”
