Nakamba to ‘soldier on’ in Warriors fold despite immense criticism

Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba will dust himself off and aim to recover from the criticism he got following Zimbabwe’s elimination from AFCON 2025 while aiming to do well for the team in future, it has emerged.

The England-based midfielder’s late handball gifted South Africa a penalty, which was converted by Oswin Appollis, as Bafana Bafana won 3-2 in Marrakech, to eliminate the Warriors from the continental showpiece.

Despite apologizing for the mistake after the game, some football fans blasted the soft-spoken midfielder on social media, to the point that he was reportedly falling into depression as a result.

A source close to Nakamba told Fanzone that despite all that was said about him, the former Aston
Villa midfielder will dust himself off and aim to do better in the gold and green Warriors strip.

“Naturally, after all that was said about him, Marve (Nakamba) was down and it affected him a lot,” said the source.

“But the support and messages of encouragement he got from his Warriors teammates greatly did him good. They were there for him after the game to comfort him and still do so to this day.

“His focus is now on recovering well from this episode and aim to do better for the Warriors in 2026 and beyond.”
