Roma have completed the arrival of Netherlands attacker Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, ending his stay in England after a single season.
The Premier League outfit described the transaction as one involving a confidential amount, while the Italian club clarified that the agreement is structured as a temporary transfer with a future purchase clause.
The 26-year-old becomes the latest addition to Roma’s squad as they push on in the league campaign.
Limited role despite goal return
Malen found the net 10 times across 46 outings during his time with Villa, following his transfer from Borussia Dortmund in January 2025.
During the current season, he has produced seven goals for Unai Emery’s team but has been unable to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup.
Only five of his 21 appearances in domestic competition came from the opening whistle, reflecting reduced involvement despite his output.
Career path and international record
Having developed in the academies of Ajax and Arsenal, Malen launched his senior journey at PSV Eindhoven before heading to Germany in 2021.
Across all clubs, he has registered 104 goals from 294 matches, underlining his long-term scoring record.
On the international stage, he has contributed 13 goals in 49 fixtures for the Netherlands and will now wear the number 14 shirt at Roma, who currently sit fifth in Serie A.
