Kwekwe United bolster squad as PSL promotion race heats up in Central Region

Kwekwe United have swiftly moved to bolster their squad as they hope to upscale their PSL promotion bid in the Central Region Soccer League.
Already boasting the services of the likes of Partson Jaure, Sadney Urikhob and Valentine Kadonzvo, Kwekwe United mean business on the transfer market.
On Tuesday, they unveiled two players acquired from Hardrock FC, Shelton Sibanda and Oncemore Uriri. They also unveiled Junior Gilbert, while former Bikita Minerals and Simba Bhora midfielder Barnabus Mtuche joins the Golden Boys. Meanwhile they let go striker Evans Katema to join PSL side TelOne FC.
CENTRAL REGION REACHES HALFWAY MARK
The Central Region Soccer League season is beginning to take clear shape after 17 rounds of matches, with a handful of teams separating themselves as the chasing pack.
At the centre of the title run-in are four unbeaten sides — Blanket Mine, West Nicholson, Chapungu and Kwekwe United — all of whom have shown consistency and resilience so far.
And as the campaign gathers momentum, the big question on many football fans’ minds is simple: which of these teams will go all the way without losing, and who will still be standing when the season comes to an end?
Leading the charge at the top of the table is Blanket Mine. The Gwanda-based side has made a strong statement in the opening rounds, and are unbeaten in 16 outings.
They sit comfortably at the summit with 38 points, tied on the same number of points with West Nicholson who have an inferior goal difference.
Chapungu, who started the race in blistering form, appear to be running out of steam as they have dropped to third position with 37 points, one behind Blanket Mine FC and West Nicholson.
Kwekwe United sit in fourth position with 33 points and will be hoping to close the gap in upcoming fixtures. Gwanda Pirates are fifth with 30 points.
Chapungu FC, Blanket Mine FC and Kwekwe United will be in action on Wednesday to fulfil their matchday 17 fixtures after participating in Munhumutapa Challenge Cup preliminary rounds.
Blanket Mine FC face an away trip to Good Morning FC at Kotamai Stadium, while Chapungu entertain Matobo FC at Ascot Stadium. Kwekwe United host Vhembe Stars Academy at Ascot Stadium, while Gwanda Pirates play host to Shurugwi FC at Phelandaba Stadium.
