Katsande: Northern Region clubs’ commitment is top tier

Former Warriors hardman Willard Katsande has admitted the heat and pressure in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League is nerve-wracking, describing the commitment from clubs as top tier.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of a match between CP Chemicals and Zambezi which he attended, sparking curiosity about what the former Warriors captain could be looking for as he continues his coaching journey.

Katsande, who took charge of FC Oden in July, has enjoyed an impressive start to life at the Chinhoyi-based club, winning more games and helping FC Oden into the top 5.

WHAT WILLARD KATSANDE SAID

Speaking to Fanzone, Katsande hailed competition in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League, stating that clubs’ commitment is top tier.

“Northern Region is an interesting league, and you can see by the way teams play. There is a good fighting spirit and good football,” he added.

Katsande’s remarks underline the appeal of a league where clubs continue to battle for promotion, pride and recognition, with every match offering an opportunity to assess the talent emerging from Zimbabwe’s lower divisions.

For a coach still building his reputation in the dugout, watching other teams can also provide valuable insight into different playing styles, tactical approaches and the depth of talent available in the league.

Since taking over at FC Oden, Katsande has recorded nine wins, three draws and one defeat in his 13 matches, remaining unbeaten during that run. His start has given the club fresh momentum and strengthened expectations around what he can achieve this season.

Whether his appearance at the CP Chemicals versus Zambezi encounter was purely for the love of the game or also an opportunity to study the competition, one thing is clear: Katsande remains keenly interested in the football being played across the Northern Region.

For now, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is keeping his attention on football, both on and off the pitch, as he continues to shape his coaching career at FC Oden.
