Jordan Zemura after netting for Watford FC

Warriors star Jordan Zemura marked his first Watford FC goal with a special tribute to his on-the-way daughter daughter after sealing a 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The Zimbabwe international was introduced in the second half to chip home the Hornets’ second goal deep in stoppage time. That was days after announcing he is expecting his first child with his girlfriend.

Zemura celebrated by putting the ball under his shirt, a gesture that celebrates pregnancy.

‘IT’S THE BIGGEST BLESSING’ SAYS JORDAN ZEMURA

“It’s the biggest blessing my girlfriend has ever given me. I’m honoured and I’m blessed to have her in my life. That was for my daughter, and my girlfriend.

The talented wing-back steadily beat Charlton Athletic goalkeeper with a dinked effort over Arthur Okonkwo to seal the win. Luca Kjerrumgaard scored the opening goal for Watford FC.

“I just tried to stay cool in that moment. I didn’t want to think too much about it. I had been down the byline earlier as well, when I was unfortunate not to get my foot on the ball. This time, I tried a bit of flair with it.

“We [Zemura and Vata] said before the game that if one of us gets a goal or an assist today, we would be happy. For him to get the assist and me to get the goal, I’m chuffed.

“We normally play against each other in training and we have little bets, like who’s going to score. We get on really well and he’s a talented player. We’re trying to build that connection.”

The goal came at a crucial time for Watford, who bounced back after two heavy defeats, with Zemura crediting head coach Alessio Dionisi’s positive approach.

“That’s the manager. He says ‘play forward’. At every meeting, every game and every training session, it’s ‘play forward, play forward, play forward’,” Zemura added.

“We needed that result. The lads were fighting from minute one and you can see what it means to all of us. Today shows we need to keep sticking together as a team and a group.”

Zemura’s form will be music to Ramon Catala ears, as the left back missed tge first round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
