“It’s about Renco winning”:Chingarande and Magwaza fire the Miners’ seven-match surge

Renco Mine FC’s charge up the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League table has a clear source of power, and it’s coming from both ends of the pitch.

The partnership of Artwell Magwaza and Michael Chingarande has given the miners cutting edge upfront, with 11 goals between them already this season.

At the back, goalkeeper Freedom Kwangwa has been just as important, keeping another clean sheet yesterday as the six-match unbeaten run stretched to seven after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Masvingo United.

That victory was worth more than just three points.

It propelled Renco Mine to 44 points and saw them leapfrog Grand Legacy FC into 6th position, underlining just how far this team has come during their purple patch.

The clean sheet was also another reminder of why Kwangwa was named the reigning Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League Goalkeeper of the Month for August.

Neither Magwaza nor Chingarande found the net yesterday, but both were instrumental in a performance that underlined why Renco Mine are currently the form team in the league.

The duo linked well, worked the channels, and gave Masvingo’s backline no peace as Takunda Chirima’s strike sealed three more points and kept the momentum rolling.

On how they built understanding so quickly, Chingarande was full of praise for his new partner. “To be honest it’s been easy. Artwell came in with hunger from Blanket Mine and he works hard. We talk a lot in training about where we want the ball. I am on 8 goals and he is on 3 but it’s not about individual goals, it’s about Renco winning and once you trust the guy next to you the goals will come,” said Chingarande. Magwaza echoed the sentiment, crediting the environment for his fast adaptation. “To be honest, Michael made it easy for me from day one. He welcomed me and we watch each other’s movements. As for me coming from Blanket Mine FC I just wanted to adapt fast, and playing with experienced players here at Renco Mine FC helped me a lot. I am grateful to my teammates for helping me adapt so quickly,” said Magwaza.

The move from the Central Region Soccer League to PSERSL football is never easy, but Magwaza says he has settled well. “It’s been good. The boys and the coaches at Renco Mine FC made me feel at home. The biggest difference in the PSERSL compared to the Central Region is the pace and the intensity. Teams are more organized, more physical and every game feels like a final. But I am learning fast and I am grateful for the chance and I want to repay the club,” said Magwaza.

With the goals flowing, the targets are now clear and Magwaza is aiming to keep contributing, while the team sets its sights high. “For me it’s to keep contributing goals and assists. As a team we are not looking far. Top 4 is the minimum because Renco Mine FC deserves to be fighting for honours. If we can keep this unbeaten run going, why not push for the title? 11 goals between us is just the start,” said Magwaza.

Chingarande has his own milestone in mind wuth the former FC Hunters striker insisting that the collective effort comes first. “Personally I am chasing 15 goals plus this season but my main target is to help Renco Mine finish as high as possible,” said Chingarande.

The secret behind seven straight wins, according to Chingarande, is simple. “The key has been unity. Everyone is working hard, the coaches, the players and our management, and fans too. And we are grateful to have such lovely supporters,” said Chingarande.

His message to the Renco faithful was direct. “My message to the supporters, please come in your numbers and support us and have faith in us,” added Chingarande.

From Blanket Mine to the heart of Renco’s attack, from Kwangwa’s gloves to collective belief, Magwaza and Chingarande are proving that partnerships win games.
