TelOne FC coach Herbert Maruwa warns his team won’t underestimate Dynamos despite their 5-0 thrashing by Scottland FC in the Castle Challenge Cup on Sunday at Rufaro Stadium in Harare.
The Wifi Boys host the once-beautiful Glamour Boys at Ascot Stadium on Saturday in their season-opening match.
While TelOne have conducted their business quietly and swiftly, Dynamos have been in the limelight for their poor build-up to the season and most recently for a poorly branded kit their players donned during the Castle Challenge Cup.
Simply put, the Harare giants are a pale shadow of themselves, as financial mismanagement continues stalking them season in, season out. However, coach Maruwa, a former Dynamos coach himself, is cautious ahead of his team’s maiden 2026 league match.
Maruwa says Dynamos still possess that x-factor to shock opponents even when they appear to be at their lowest.
“We know Dynamos are going through a tough patch, but we’ve seen them bounce back before. We’ll be taking nothing for granted,” Herbert Maruwa told Fanzone.
“Those 5-0 losses can happen to anyone, but we’re focused on our game plan and taking it one match at a time. Dynamos may not be at their best, but they’ve still got quality players and a big history.
“We’ll need to be on top of our game.I’m not getting complacent just because they’re struggling. We’ve been there before, and we know what it takes to beat them.”
TelOne are expecting better strides after finishing the season on fifth position. Their first five matches are undoubtedly a tough test of their pedigree, as they face Dynamos FC followed by MWOS FC, Simba Bhora, FC Platinum, Scottland FC, and ZPC Kariba in that order.
